Memphis Depay’s Passport Drama Delays His Netherlands Call-Up

Talk about travel drama! Former Manchester United forward Memphis Depay, now playing for Corinthians, missed his flight to join the Dutch national team after realizing he didn’t have his passport with him.

According to Coach Ronald Koeman, Depay tried to explain the situation but wasn’t allowed to board. The Dutch FA (KNVB) says the country’s all-time top scorer is doing everything possible to join the squad soon.

The 31-year-old has since been issued a temporary passport and is expected to land in Amsterdam on Tuesday morning.

Koeman called the situation “unfortunate” especially since the team wanted to start preparations for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Malta (Oct 9) and Finland (Oct 12) with a full squad.

Depay’s international record speaks for itself 52 goals for the Netherlands 🇳🇱 even after a rollercoaster club career that’s taken him from PSV to Manchester United, Lyon, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, and now Corinthians, where he’s scored 13 goals in 38 games.

If he manages to make it in time for the Finland clash, he’ll be hoping to help the Dutch solidify their lead in Group G and maybe add another goal or two to his incredible tally.
